WiN GHW Tour of the NWMO's Discovery and Demonstration Centre (Oakville, Ont.)

The Women in Nuclear Golden Horseshoe West (WiN GHW) chapter invites you to a tour of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) Discovery and Demonstration Centre in Oakville, Ont.

This facility is home to their design, optimization and proof testing program and provides an opportunity to test conceptual designs, including materials and technologies, to ensure the NWMO can demonstrate a strong technical safety case for their work (e.g., testing used nuclear fuel containers, shaping and moving fully loaded bentonite buffer boxes, testing potential emplacement methods, etc.). The Discovery and Demonstration Centre is also an excellent way to demonstrate the science at work behind Canada’s plan for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel and build confidence in their technical program. Tours of the facility provide an up-close opportunity to see some of the ongoing research and development.
