Durham Chapter Chair Nominees 2022/23

Women in Nuclear Canada is excited to announce the nominees for the positions on the 2022-2023 Durham Chapter Chair.

The eligible nominees running for these positions are below and the online voting will be open from July 4th 9:00 AM ET - July 18th 5:00 PM ET, 2022. Access to the online voting platform will be available on our election webpage starting on this date.


Parisa Sabouri 

Project Manager - Ontario Power Generation

  • Please describe your contribution to WiN Canada: Avid member for many years. Have volunteered at some events.
  • Please describe the reason for your interest in becoming the Chapter Chair for WiN Durham: I want to be more involved in the community and continue to inspire change.
  • Please describe your experience in planning, coordinating, executing events and/or your experience: As a project manager I am very familiar with planning and organizing multidisciplinary projects. I have taken it upon myself to set up extra opportunities outside the workplace to create a sense of community including Persian New Years parties, and Beach volleyball tournaments.

Elly Shobeiri

Area manager - AECON

  • Please describe your contribution to WiN Canada: Participating in conferences. Since I am a nuclear professional andalsoI am in my last year of Phd program in nuclear engineering, I can bring value added to WIn Canada by presenting novel ideas or being moderator for panel discussions.
  • Please describe the reason for your interest in becoming the Chapter Chair for WiN Durham: I am a woman who is nuclear advocate. I find this opportunity aligned with my passion and priorities.
  • Please describe your experience in planning, coordinating, executing events and/or your experience: I am an area manager at Darlington refurbishment project. I have successfully completed (planning and execution) my project in U3 andwill be executing same project in U1.




Jothi Bavan

Senior Engineering Manager, Return to Service - Ontario Power Generation

  • Please describe your contribution to WiN Canada: I have been a WiN member over 10 years; I mentor women in nuclear; As a STEM advocate, I speak at diverse forums promoting women to choose Engineering and encourage women to take on leadership role at the Nuclear Stations.
  • Please describe the reason for your interest in becoming the Chapter Chair for WiN Durham: I have worked in diverse areas in Nuclear and have 19 years of experience at Ontario Power Generation.I  have started a $2000 bursary supporting low income women entering Engineering at the University of Waterloo in memory of my late mother. I believe in women empowerment and financial burden should never be a hindrance to a woman in achieving her dreams. I am also an advocate for Equity Diversity and Inclusion. Durham region has seen a massive change in terms of itspopulation; there has been diverse communities moving in. I would love to connect with the members and be a role model to them while developing the up and coming young women in Nuclear.
  • Please describe your experience in planning, coordinating, executing events and/or your experience: I have involved in coordinating international women's day at OPG. In addition, I have been a Design Team Leader who executed many emergent projects successfully and have held leadership roles (section manager, manager, Senior Manager) in multiple different organization Performance Engineering, Design Engineering, Procurement Engineering, Supply Chain, Refurbishment–Canada’s largest project).
